My Dream Home- Thanks to Pinterest

I am an avid Pinner- no shame here....

One of my favorite things to pin are pictures of homes, rooms, and things that would compose my dream home...

Here are some samples..

I particularly want the aquarium bedroom...

Because that would be freakin' sweet!

I think the internet can be good for a lot of things- I particularly like Pinterest because it is a really cool way to share ideas! Although I know these pictures don't really portray what my future home will actually be like, it is fun to dream, and when we do build a house (20 years from now) I have a huge collection of ideas we can use in our design.

Perhaps I'm crazy though and in 20 years Pinterest will be completely obsolete, and the process of building a home will be totally virtualized so you can walk through the blueprints and see what your home will be like before you build...you never know?- But hey, in the meantime, what's the harm in dreaming a little bit?

A Pep Talk for You!

This video is a great example of how media can be a  influence for good. We can share ideas, inspiration, help, and uplifting messages. I felt better just by watching this 3.5 minute video! How amazing is that? This kid, and the makers of this short video, may never know how their message has changed someone, yet by sharing it with the world through the internet, they have touched thousands (182,805 to be exact).

Ask yourself, what is it that I can do to make this world a better place?
Look around you- and you will surely find a need that YOU can help to fill.

My favorite quote of the month is from the Dalai Lama,
"My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness."

Kindness is the center of all good acts, and it is exactly what this world needs most.

Happy Weekend, Everyone!

Star Trek

First off- Star Trek is one of my very favorite television series...in fact, it is still fighting with LOST first first place in my brain for "Best Television Series Tabitha has Ever had the Pleasure of Watching"

It's a pretty shiny award- because it is made of pure 14 K gold

But if you haven't watched these series- you should....in fact if you wish to understand nerd humor, where the ipad came from....where cell phones came from...where the internet came from....where the flat screen television came from....where furbies came from....and important stuff like that- than you should/ you need to watch Star Trek.

In honor of Martin Luther King Day- you all should read this article, or listen to this interview (seriously, it explains why Star Trek is a very progressive TV show/ historically important)

The video below is the first interracial kiss, which aired on this episode of Star Trek

Pretty cool, right? That's how awesome Star Trek is...yes this scene is a little cheesy, but so was all television back then, which is why we love it, right?

All in all, I think Star Trek is an awesome series, and I think if you were to watch all the star trek series, the original and the next generation (Captain Picard is also awesome)....you'd be surprised at how it changes the why you think about the world around you, and helps you to think critically- personally, I think it opened my mind to endless possibilities, as well as to moral and ethical dilemmas that I wouldn't have thought about by watching Bones, Glee, or Modern Family.

I double-dog-dare you to watch all of the original Star Trek series....like I have...(and/or Star Trek: The Next Generation)....and I bet that if you did this- you too would feel this way about Captain James. T. Kirk

He's the original awesome.

Live Long and Prosper, my friends!

Hackers- those dirty little rascals.....

This week I had the pleasure of being hacked.

Somehow my email was hacked and a weird email virus was sent to all my friends! How rude! Soon I had loads of emails coming in saying...."Tabitha, I think you've been hacked"...."Um, what the heck is this"....and "did you send this weird email to me?"

NO! of course it wasn't me- when was the last time  I sent you an email anyway? Just kidding...the point is I was pretty frustrated.

Right away I frantically changed all of my passwords, for like....everything....which is annoying for me because now I have to remember all these "hard strength" passwords that hackers will never guess!

MuuuAhhhhAhhhAhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! (this is an evil laugh, just in case you can't tell)

But seriously, I was in rare form after I was hacked....so incredibly angry inside that someone or someone's computer program...would hack into my account and use my contact list to send some weird email....I felt violated, and honestly couldn't think of anything that I did that could possibly have brought this on....in my head hacking a crime, yet most hackers probably never get caught, and even if they were how would be punish them? I honestly don't know what kinds of law are in place when it comes to internet crimes, I know there are some....but I'm not sure what....anyone know?

All in all, I feel like I had a taste of what identity thief would sort of feel like, lucky for me I didn't lose any money....maybe some friends... oh well. I thought I was a pretty cautious person on the internet and could avoid such frustrations but apparently I am not immune.

This little experience made me think about how important it is to keep your information safe, secure, and private on the web....just be smart about what you do (even when you are being careful, you just never know), and change your passwords regularly and make them so bad-A that no could ever guess them- not even Shawn Spencer, or Monk.

Well...that's it for now.

Peace Out home-slices-of-bacon (don't worry it's a compliment, look below to find out why)

Why on Earth are Cats so funny?

So I don't know about you- but cats make me laugh....not in real life though (i have NEVER laughed at a cat in real life)- only on the internet. For some reason- they are really funny on the internet...I will explain my theory why after these examples....and if you don't think they are funny- I would like to know why? And if you think I am crazy.

And last but not least- my all personal favorite

Now, the funny part about all this is that I actually hate cats (there are exceptions for some cats), but in general, I consider myself to be a dog person. So here is my theory as to why the internet cat phenomenon has grown exponentially--> People like to make fun of things/laugh at things they hate, like Cats.

Of course this theory is really just a hypothesis at this point and must first be thoroughly tested before we can make any conclusions.

I think the internet is a great place to share some harmless fun about our furry little friends. I think the internet has definitely changed the way we see comedy (really memes are like a comic strip really, only with one box...comic box?) I think in the future we can kids referencing popular internet memes or pictures instead of quoting movies (pssst...this is already happening....) Which could create more of a segregation from one generation to the next, I think the internet has done that in many ways (but we can get into that more in another post)

Until next week,

Tab out.

*SMASH*

Confession #1 of an ALMOST College Grad
I am love with the new show "Smash" on NBC. But that's not the confession- the confession is that I was up until the wee hours of the night watching it (rest assured, this isn't something I do everyday), but what can I say, I am in love.... It's basically a drama about the ins and outs of creating a Broadway musical, and the variety of people on the Broadway scene. The girl singing below is the main character, Karen, a greenie to Broadway who has a terrific voice, and is destined for Stardom. I love, love, love the music (below is one of my favorite songs she sings in one of recent episodes I watched)....but honestly, if you are into musical theater or if you liked Glee (I sure did) you will most likely like this show. However, there is some "adult content" in it, so you have been warned. There is a lot behavior that I consider inappropriate, such as drug usage, cheating, back-stabbing, jealously, lying, etc....but I do think this shows has given me a greater appreciation for the arts, especially musical theater and all the work (and drama) that goes into creating a smash on Broadway.

Hello, and welcome all!

I would like to start this media blog out by sharing a scene from one of my family's most quoted films, enjoy!
